My Therapeutic Philosophy
My therapeutic approach can be captured in my professional motto, "Let's walk together." Therapy is an interactive journey where my clients and I seek to better understand barriers that are preventing them from living fully in the moment. For many, this process takes time. It is a walk, not a run and like every journey, there are highs and lows. Sometimes we may slip and fall but that's O.K.; we get back up and keep going. This process is designed to instill feelings of inner strength and understanding while learning skills to better cope with life's challenges. Remember, you are the expert on you! It is important that you let me know what is helpful and what is not. Ask questions when you are not clear about something. Disagree or correct me as the occasion arises. We are in this together!
What to Expect
Extensive experience: With over 25 years in the field of psychology, I provide a therapeutic experience tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals. My areas of expertise include, but are not limited to:
ADHD diagnosis, strategies, and management
Depression, anxiety, and loneliness.
Identity development (sexual, gender, socio-political, racial)
Emotional regulation and stress management.
Self-confidence & personal empowerment.
Communication, skill building, problem solving and anger management.
Relationships and couples counseling.
Life Transitions
Substance misuse and addictions.
Respect, empathy, support, and honesty: I am deeply compassionate and dedicated to supporting your personal growth and self-empowerment. I approach each person with a non-judgmental attitude. I believe that everyone’s identity is uniquely their own, and that is how I will treat you.
A highly collaborative experience: My approach involves active participation from you, both during and outside of our sessions. While I maintain a very casual and approachable demeanor, I am equally focused on helping you find solutions. While some clients and therapists may find value in using therapy as a space to vent, my primary goal is to facilitate emotional and behavioral change.
To do this, I take a more interactive approach than some therapists. I may interrupt when something significant arises and ask for more details to gain a deeper understanding of your mental patterns, which influence how you interact with the world. I also encourage you to provide feedback about our work together. If something doesn’t resonate or if you disagree, I want to hear about it. Expressing your needs is a vital skill that will enhance your relationships and daily life. Before each session ends, I will ask you to set a weekly commitment—something you can work on before our next meeting. It's important to take what you learn in therapy and apply it in your life outside of our sessions.
Objective measures to assess growth: I use objective measures to track your progress and assess growth. This process begins with the intake paperwork, which is extensive, but ultimately saves you time and money. Through a clearer understanding of your treatment needs at the outset, I can determine your treatment needs and develop a therapeutic plan more efficiently and accurately.
A home environment: My home office is thoughtfully designed to create a warm and safe space where healing and personal growth can thrive. While you wait for your session, feel free to help yourself to coffee, tea, water, or a snack, and relax in my living room. My two cats will greet you with purrs and my bunny will be happy to see you too! I will introduce you to my son, if the opportunity arises and you may occasionally cross paths with other clients. Please keep this in mind if you value complete anonymity or have allergies. I believe therapy is a powerful act of self-love and strength — something to embrace and take pride in, not something to hide from.
VIP treatment: To ensure the highest quality of care, I limit the number of clients I see, which allows for more flexible scheduling and the option to extend or add sessions as needed. We can also alternate between in-person sessions and teletherapy, depending on your preferences. My therapeutic approach is tailored to meet your unique needs. If you'd like to explore alternative methods, such as walking therapy, therapy in nature, or sessions while listening to music, please let me know. I will do my best to accommodate your request.
Insurance and Payment: Currently, I only accept MVP and out-of-pocket payments. Payment is due at the beginning of each session. Please refer to my “Fees & Insurance Policy” for details.
Treatment Limitations: As a solo practitioner and single parent, I am often not available outside of working hours. Therefore, I am not equipped to offer treatment for severe mental illnesses, chronic suicidality, active drug abuse (other than alcohol or marijuana), eating disorders, or conditions requiring crisis support or a higher level of care.
In closing, I am currently accepting new clients who are ready to actively work towards meaningful change. Together, we will identify your strengths and barriers to create a personalized plan for success. My goal is for you to leave each session with a sense of personal growth, insight, and empowerment.
Let’s work together to help you take charge of your life!
